Opticum AX-Quadbox HD2400 Coming in September
Opticum is releasing new receiver in September 2014. Specifications are good and on pair with other receivers for moderate initial price of 399 EUR but design could be better. Maybe in real life receiver will look better than on pictures that are available on the Internet.
Specifications
– neuster Broadcom BCM Chip 7424
– 1300 DMIPS Prozessor (Dual Core)
– 4x “Plug & Play” modulare Tuner (DVB-S2 / DVB-C / DVB-T/T2 wählbar)
– Flash: 1GB
– RAM: 2GB DDR3

…
As you can see it has lots of flash and ram, 2 cardreaders, 2 CI slots, 3x USB connectors, transcoding support (Xtrend still hasnt implemented transcoding for ET-10000), WOL two HDMI connectors (IN/OUT – I really do not see added value for HDMI-IN, but others might be using this on ET-10000), OLED screen (better one good screen than one good other one bad – VU+ DUO 2), space for 2.5″ HDD inside the receiver, external power supply, etc.
This might be good alternative to existing receivers and I really hope they will provide good support for drivers and excellent remote control. Support might be good as they already sent needed patches to OpenPLi team so we can expect OpenPLi image from the beginning! Images cannot be downloaded yet but I expect that they will be available in September. OpenATV on the other side already offers images for this receiver. Regarding remote control. I am allergic to receivers with amazing specs and poor remote control. Good remote control should have quality buttons, good range and instant response! I hope they will deliver.
PIMP my PLiHD Skin for OpenPli 4.0
User Talbs from OpenPLi forum released this interesting default OpenPLi skin few months ago. It is basically just a small mod where you can choose between different color layouts which are borrowed from MyMetrix skin, you can also choose different fonts and use SHD picons or in other words, these picons are bigger than usual ones. Users are using these picons with MyMetrix skin but you cannot use it with default OpenPLi skin – PLiHD because you cant put it anywhere!
If you want to download and try it, visit OpenPLi forum (http://openpli.org/forums/topic/32847-pimp-my-plihd-by-talbs/page-3#entry414952) and download latest .ipk file. I dont know by heart if there is already latest version on OpenPLi official addon server. Below are some old pics. Be aware that author returned to default PLi skin main infobar layout but there is a bit more room for SHD picons, so you can use them without a problem.

Golden Interstar XPEED LX Satellite Receivers
Last few months have been quite busy with new satellite receivers based on last generation Broadcom chipsets. This also means they can run Enigma 2 software, usually modified OpenPli image (OpenATV, OpenViX, etc.). Golden Interstar is known brand in some parts of the Europe and they released three receivers:
1. LX1 has 1 tuner and is obviously an entry level receiver,
2. LX2 has 2 tuners, better display, tuner out connector and design of the box is the same as with LX1,
3. LX3 has 4 tuners, 2 are fixed, 2 are changeable. Among all Golden Interstar receivers this is the most appealing one. Specs are very similar to Vu+ Duo 2:
– Full HD Quad / Combo Receiver
– 2x DVB-S2 Fix, 2x DVB-S2 oder 2x DVB-T2/C oder 4x DVB-S2, optional via Plug Tuner
– Linux operating system (E2)
– BCM7424 Dual Core 2x 1300 MhZ
– PIP HD
– Transcoding
– Flash 2 GB
– RAM 1 GB
– OLED Display
– 2x Conax7 Kartenleser
– 2x Common Interface
– RJ 45 1GB Ethernet Interface
– HDMI 1.3 Ausgang
– Eingbautes WIFI 2,4 Ghz
– YUV Komponentenausgang
– 3x USB (1xVorder,- 2x Rückseite)
– PVR ready via USB – SATA intern und extern
– RS 232
– SPDIF Ausgang
– 4G LTE
– Bluetooth fähig via USB
I hope that the manufacturer has quality drivers because I know from my past experience that drivers can cause many issues when using the receiver. For images and other information please visit Golden Interstar website: http://www.xpeed-lx.de/
